Medienpreis Jugend gegen Rechtsextremismus verliehen

The new media prize, »Youth against right-wing extremism« was awarded for the first time to »Action Zivilcourage Pirna«. The group, brought into being in 1999 by 10 young people in the Saxon city of Pirna, received the award for exceptional and courageous engagement against racism, antisemitism and xenophobia. As initiator of the prize, which is supported by 25 newspapers, magazines and broadcasters, the Hamburg weekly newspaper, »Die Woche«, reported on the event. The first prize is worth DM 10,000 (5113 Euro). The second prize, worth DM 5,000, will go to the travelling exhibit, »Wer, wenn nicht wir?« (»If not us, then who?«). Further projects organized by school groups will be rewarded with DM 1,000 each.
